Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. The University of Oxford (informally Oxford University, or simply Oxford), located in the English city of Oxford, is the oldest surviving university in the English-speaking world and is regarded as one of the world's leading academic institutions. Although the exact date of foundation remains unclear, there is evidence of teaching there as far back as the 11th century. The University grew rapidly from 1167 when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris. In post-nominals the University of Oxford is typically abbreviated as Oxon. (from the Latin Oxoniensis), although Oxf is sometimes used in official publications. After disputes between students and Oxford townsfolk in 1209, some academics fled north-east to Cambridge, where they established what became the University of Cambridge. The two "ancient universities" have many common features and are often jointly referred to as Oxbridge. In addition to cultural and practical associations as a historic part of British society, the two universities also have a long history of rivalry with each other. Most undergraduate teaching at Oxford is organised around weekly essay-based tutorials at self-governing colleges and halls, supported by lectures and laboratory classes organised by University faculties and departments. League tables consistently list Oxford as one of the UK's best universities, and Oxford consistently ranks in the world's top 10. The University is a member of the Russell Group of research-led British universities, the Coimbra Group, the League of European Research Universities, International Alliance of Research Universities and is also a core member of the Europaeum. For more than a century, it has served as the home of the Rhodes Scholarship, which brings students from a number of countries to study at Oxford as postgraduates. From Wikipedia under the

My HKCEE results are excellent. I intend to apply for the History Faculty of Oxford University, but I am not sure what examination results the Oxford University will count, A2 results? AS results? Have a look on website for example questions: Answered by mitzy - Wed Oct 3 06:30:47 2007 How do I get into Oxford University? Do you need to be in an IB program? Q. How can one get into Oxford University's undergraduate program. Do I need to be in an IB Program and how do I get into such a program in the United States? Thank you. Is this information available on their site? Asked by professionalkiwi - Mon Jul 20 19:51:39 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. To qualify to apply to Oxford, a US student needs either: - To do an IB diploma, instead of a regular high school diploma, or - Do a regular HS diploma plus at least 3 AP exams, scored 5, 5, 4, or higher, or - Do a regular HS diploma plus at least 3 SAT subject tests, scoring very, very well (700+), or - Do a regular HS diploma plus 1 year of US college courses Any of those will work, so if you don't have IB at your school, do one of these other options. Answered by RoaringMice - Mon Jul 20 19:57:54 2009 What are the entrance requirements for Oxford University for American students?
Q. I live in the USA but I also have citizenship with the Uk also. As I am about to enter high school in 2 weeks and am interested in attending Oxford University after I complete highschool I need to know the enterence requirements. What do they look for? How can I impress them? What highschool corses would be beneficiary to my acceptence? It may be too early to tell, but currently I am interested in reading (taking) "Economics and Management" I have dual citizenship with the USA and the UK Asked by Calsbo - Fri Aug 25 19:24:07 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Normally admissions for US students is based on SAT scores and performance on AP subjects. You'll need to score very high on the SATs and probably take around 5 AP courses. Oxford is usually also interested in extra-cirricular activities as well. From the little I know about the US system these activities are easier to acquire than in the UK. I have known some UK citizens who have been living in the US and have gained their highschool certificate and moved back to the UK and gone back to school here and done their A levels before applying to university. The UK education system is very different to the US one, and there is a big jump between the levels of high school and university Answered by mr_whippey - Sun Aug 27 06:34:56 2006 From Yahoo Answer Search: "university of oxford" The University of Oxford (informally "Oxford University", or simply "Oxford"), located in the English city of Oxford, is the oldest surviving university in the English-speaking world and is regarded as one of the world's leading academic institutions.
