How is the system for admitting foreign students at Oxford University?
Q. I am Brazilian and I would like to know what the requirements demanded by Oxford University to approve students (tests, interviews). I would also like to know what the annual cost of studying at Oxford (enrollment at the university, the university fees per month, housing) Sorry if it's difficult to understand because I am Brazilian and I'm still learning to speak British English.

A. For admissions check out: 'Certificado de Ensino Medio or University entrance examination (Vestibular, ENEM, PAS) would not be sufficient for candidates to make a competitive application' Your bet bet is an IB diploma For costs check out: Thanks Bill

A. Reasons Why if might be the best: 1. Tutors. The people who teach at Oxford are, in many cases, already high up in their fields, or are rising stars. Surprisingly often undergraduates are taught by tutors who actually *did* "write the book on it". 2. Tutorial System. Undergrads at Oxford are taught in tutorial groups often of only 2 or 3 student to one tutor. Tutorials are frequent, on the order of 3 every fortnight, with essays set for each. This means that every student has a good opportunity to discuss the material with the tutor, and no one can escape doing the work by not drawing attention to themselves. 3. Pressure. Oxford terms are short (8 weeks) and the workload is much higher than at other universities. This means that students… [cont.]

What do I have to prepare to in order to get into Oxford University?
Q. I am a Ngee Ann Polytechnic(in Singapore) student at the very moment. I would like to know up to which level of qualification I will need to get into Oxford University. I am a foreign student here. I come from Burma to study in Singapore. Just as everyone else, I intend to get a scholarship, if possible. If I were to get a scholarship, what are the expectations or the expected criteria? Certificates like SAT or IELTS or TOEFL or any other certificates, please specify.

A. There are different requirements for different majors. You don't state if you will be an undergraduate or a graduate student; makes a difference. Check out the first link below to see if your studies to date meet the requirements for someone coming from Singapore. The second and third links will provide you with more information and points of contact. Good luck.

Are the colleges at Oxford University all very different?
Q. I'm considering applying to Oxford University in England. My mother went to St. John's college there, and I'm not sure if all of the colleges there are all very different. Also, when you apply, do you apply to just one of those colleges, or to the university as a whole? Anything you have to share about the college experience (especially internationally; I live in the US) would be appreciated.
Asked by CJ - Thu Jun 17 21:04:08 2010 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Yes they are all different - doing a little background reading on each would be a good idea. Some colleges are more specific to certain courses. And yes, you apply to the University *via* naming a first preference then a second preference college. Having a family member who previously attended St. John's will likely stand you in good stead if you apply there. Sad, but true. Your grades will have to be exceptional.

I'm sure in your everyday life you all use grammer that you would never dream of using on a formal document/ assignment/ application form. Anyway in answer to your question for the majority of subjects you will need 3+ A grades at A Level (or equlivant) an excellent personal statement showing lots of extra curricular activities including ones relating to your course if poss (eg. Volunteering in a hospital for Medicine). You have to choose a college to apply too and you should look at the stats showing how many students they accept for your course, how many applications they recieve and the % that are given… [cont.]

Q. I'm hoping to study English literature at Oxford but I'm confused about the exams. I haven't any friends who have studied there before and I'm wondering what the exams are testing on. What grade (out of 100) would I need to be accepted at Oxford University?
Q. I'm an Italian student longing to frequent Oxford University. Italian scholastic system is pretty different from the English one. Here's no sixth form, but 5 years of high school(from 13 to 18) at the end of which we have an ''Esame di Stato'' (a written and oral test)in almost every subject (apart from Religious Ed., Physical Ed.). Grades are given in a scale with 100 as best result. How much would I need to be accepted? Thanks in advance!

A. You will need a total score of 95>. See website - link below. Depending on what course you plan to study you will also be expected to get a particular score in particular subject.s You will need to contact the university for further information. Please also remember that the deadline for 2009 admissions has closed for international students. What do Oxford university think of sociology?
Q. I really want to drop English, as I know I am not good at it, but if I meet the entry requirements towards Oxford based on History, Economics and Sociology, is Sociology considered at Oxford, or will they exlude that? Even if I get AAA I want to do Law and like I said English I am really poor at, even though Oxford want GCSE Maths if you want to study Law, which I got an A in

A. With a standard of English grammar as poor as yours, I feel you are being somewhat ambitious thinking that you'll get to study anything at Oxford. Aim your sights a little lower. Have you thought about studying in the USA for example.

has oxford university pioneered any Economics concepts?
Q. if so, can you please tell me which concepts these are and who (the professor or student) came up with them? it would be really helpful thanks im writing an article about how the University of Oxford has contributed to the development of modern Economics.

A. Yes, the Oxford University Economics Dept has contributed to the concepts, principle of modern Economic theory. To write an article to assess this contribution one needs lots of research work. Better would be go through the publications of present and past professors and reserchers at Oxford, at least the abstract of articles need to be read. Some great Oxford economists books must be read. In particular, the following books will be helpful: The Oxford economists in the late nineteenth century by Alon Kadish Three Great Economists: Smith, Malthus, Keynes by D. D. Raphael, Robert Skidelsky, Donald Winch. 382 pgs. University of Oxford's Department of Economics The Department provides a focus for a very diverse and internationally… [cont.]
