Oxbridge is a composite of the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge in England, and the term is now used to refer to them collectively, often with implications of perceived superior intellectual or social status. Oxbridge can be used as a noun refering to either or both universities or as an adjective describing them or their students. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Is there a real difference in achieving a Master's degree in Oxbridge or Liverpool University? Q. I know that Oxford University and Cambridge University have the best reputations for the elite classes in Britain, but would a Master's degree be of any less value in another university, such as Liverpool? Asked by Ryan R - Sun Nov 9 11:36:29 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would say that the subject matter is important, so choose the best one in your field. Hi i got my Gcse results yesterday ( 6A*s and 3 As) I got all A*s in the subjects i was doing next year except english language and lit ( i got A for both), for which i missed the A* by only 2 or 3 points.. Do you think I will even be considered by Oxbridge? Asked by Emma S - Fri Aug 22 06:28:05 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. First of all, well done in your GCSEs!!! And my brother was in this kind of situation, right on the borderline between an A and A*, and we asked for his paper to be remarked, and he went up to an A*, so it is worth it, even if you stay on an A, because sometimes you get a more lenient marker. And yes, you can be considered by Oxbridge, but you will need to get good marks in your AS examinations (this year they're bringing in the A* system, so aim high for that) and do extra curricular activities, I'm sure you know this already, that it's what makes you stand out, because a lot of people get As and A*s. You will definitely be considered, but there are a lot of other top class universities out there which are specialist in Math for example,… [cont.] Answered by la_ti_da.cheesesticks - Fri Aug 22 06:46:31 2008 Could I get in to Oxbridge with these A Levels?
Q. I want to study LLB Law at Oxbrige, LSE or Southampton. I took Law, Business Studies, Gov & Politics and History at AS, then dropped the Law at A level. Predicted AAA Will I be able to get in, and also what other career paths are there with law? Asked by Carrie - Wed Oct 1 15:57:28 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I can tell you, actually. Probably not. Cambridge will not accept Business Studies: it's a watered down version of Ecomonics, and they'd be suspicious of Government and Politics. Thus, you only have as a maximum two A levels which they could accept, which is putting you at a severe disadvantage compared to other applicants. Sorry. Though not expressly put by Oxford University, they work to the same system. By all means apply, but your chances are slim to nothing, I'm afraid. By the way, Oxbridge award B.A., not LL.B's, regardless of the subject you study. You might have a better chance at Southampton. Check out this link for the A level subjects which Cambridge will accept at A level.
