Oxbridge is a composite, or blend, of the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge in England, and the term is now used to refer to them collectively, often with implications of perceived superior intellectual or social status. Oxbridge can be used as a noun referring to either or both universities or as an adjective describing them or their students. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How to improve my chances of getting into a good uni/oxbridge? Q. Basically i was wondering how i could improve my chances of getting into a good uni, ideally oxbridge, to study law. Over half of my GCSE grades are A* and A, i'm predicted A's for my a levels, i play the violin and sing, and i am involved in concerts for them [sometimes singing solos!] i help out at my local brownies, was form rep for the school council, and am hoping to do some voluntary work soon. What else can i do? I've heard contradicting information regarding extra curricular activities, with some people saying that doing something such as d of e and being involved in sports clubs is a good thing, whilst other people say that uni's dont look at this. Please help! Thankyou in advance. Asked by hoolahoop - Sun Sep 16 13:27:15 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. British universities look at extracurriculars much less than American ones do. Most British universities, in most cases do not look at them at all. If you get all A's on your A levels you should definitely get into a good law school. Oxbridge will usually require an interview before they give you (or choose not to give you) an A-level grades offer, but you stand a decent chance with them if you do well on your interview. Answered by Thomas M - Sun Sep 16 13:32:47 2007 Do you think i have a chance to get into oxford/cambridge- oxbridge? Q. I'm an A level student predicted 3 A's at A level and 2 A's at two different As level subjects. I do some charity/ volunteer work, Top of my college year in Law and won some uk law essays competitions. However my gcse aren't so good, the highest I achieved in gcse are B's. Most people that go to oxbridge got 6A*'s atleast. I might have good grades but i'm competing against people with the same A level predictions as me, done more extra curriculum activities and got much higher grades than me in gcse. How am I mean to compete against them?? Because I really want to go oxford/cambridge and I want to proof some people wrong (espmy parents). And do i even have a chance of getting a interview??? If you're from a state school, or especially some other underprivileged background, they are under government and league table pressure to take more students like you, so you might have a chance. And if not, remember that there are plenty of other outstanding universities in the UK. Answered by Thomas M - Sun Aug 19 18:37:20 2007 When will I find out if I get the oxbridge offer?
