A. Reasons Why if might be the best: 1. Tutors. The people who teach at Oxford are, in many cases, already high up in their fields, or are rising stars. Surprisingly often undergraduates are taught by tutors who actually *did* "write the book on it". 2. Tutorial System. Undergrads at Oxford are taught in tutorial groups often of only 2 or 3 student to one tutor. Tutorials are frequent, on the order of 3 every fortnight, with essays set for each. This means that every student has a good opportunity to discuss the material with the tutor, and no one can escape doing the work by not drawing attention to themselves. 3. Pressure. Oxford terms are short (8 weeks) and the workload is much higher than at other universities. This means that students… [cont.]

What do I have to prepare to in order to get into Oxford University?
Q. I am a Ngee Ann Polytechnic(in Singapore) student at the very moment. I would like to know up to which level of qualification I will need to get into Oxford University. I am a foreign student here. I come from Burma to study in Singapore. Just as everyone else, I intend to get a scholarship, if possible. If I were to get a scholarship, what are the expectations or the expected criteria? Certificates like SAT or IELTS or TOEFL or any other certificates, please specify.

A. There are different requirements for different majors. You don't state if you will be an undergraduate or a graduate student; makes a difference. Check out the first link below to see if your studies to date meet the requirements for someone coming from Singapore. The second and third links will provide you with more information and points of contact. Good luck.

A. Not sure it's helpful to be so pedantic. Obviously an informal internet question will not reflect the OP's grasp of formal grammer. I'm sure in your everyday life you all use grammer that you would never dream of using on a formal document/ assignment/ application form. Anyway in answer to your question for the majority of subjects you will need 3+ A grades at A Level (or equlivant) an excellent personal statement showing lots of extra curricular activities including ones relating to your course if poss (eg. Volunteering in a hospital for Medicine). You have to choose a college to apply too and you should look at the stats showing how many students they accept for your course, how many applications they recieve and the % that are given… [cont.]

What are EXACTLY the requirements needed to get into Oxford University Undergraduate School, from the U.S?
Q. I am a US citizen, and i have been very interested in Oxford University. My Career goal is to be an Investment banker, and i would like to study overseas in UK for my MBA.
Asked by anruag - Mon Apr 20 15:44:16 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Those are the qualifications needed to make a competative application. In addition to that you need to be passionate about your subject, and preferably have a few non-academic interests. You'd also need to be able to fund doing it (talking, very roughly $100,000 for a 3 year undergrad degree). Exactly what it costs depends on what subject you study, at which college, and living costs. You'll also need to get a student visa. Applications for courses starting autumn 2010 will be due in October 2009. good luck

What are the chances of a 26-year-old American male transferring to Oxford University?
Q. I have some college coursework finished at a private university and a junior college. I understand I'm a little older, but I have scores that can speak for themselves. I'm also married with a 13-month-old daughter; I wonder if that will be a factor. And does Oxford even accept under-graduate transfer students (hard to believe, but I'm curious nonetheless).

A. To be honest, I went to Oxford and in my whole 3 years there I never heard of anyone transferring there from another university either in this country or abroad. The courses at Oxford are of such a high standard that it's very unlikely that the necessary level of work will have been covered at any previous university to bring you in line with that which your fellow students at Oxford would have covered (the top Ivy Leagues may be an exception to this). Coming from America, it might also be a little trickier as you guys study a range of subjects at university and then 'major' and 'minor' in two, whereas we only study one (sometimes two subjects) for the whole of the time that we're at university and so you may also not have covered your… [cont.]

If I went To Oxford University could I become a doctor?
Q. Im Thinking about becoming a Doctor and but i really want to study at oxford university. I looked at the homepage and it says it offers medical science. Could I study there and become a doctor or should i go to a proper medical university?
Asked by Emily - Thu Aug 20 16:26:13 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Ignore the answer above. She is talking about the American system to become a doctor and that is different to the UK system. You don't get 'proper medical universities'. To become a doctor you need to study medicine at a university which offers that course. Oxford does indeed offer medicine as a course and if you were to take that 6 year course it would mean that you become a doctor.

Applications are all on paper but you have to apply early, in October the year before you want to start. 2. Sometimes. What grade (out of 100) would I need to be accepted at Oxford University?
Q. I'm an Italian student longing to frequent Oxford University. Italian scholastic system is pretty different from the English one. Here's no sixth form, but 5 years of high school(from 13 to 18) at the end of which we have an ''Esame di Stato'' (a written and oral test)in almost every subject (apart from Religious Ed., Physical Ed.). A. Oxford is the oldest university in England and, with Cambridge, forms the pinnacle of university education. "Oxbridge" scholars often go on to be the leading lights in their chosen fields. Oxford has faculties in many areas that are second-to-none and is also the seat of the Oxford English Dictionary, possibly the most widely respected dictionary of the English language in the world. Cap all this with the fact that Oxford is a beautiful city (you must have heard of the "dreaming spires") then it is one of the best possible places to earn your degree. I second that

How can I become enrolled into an oversea university such as Oxford?
Q. Hello, I'm currently 13 years old.. And I would love to pursue my dreams in obtaining my PH.D from Oxford University... I know the grades I have right now won't directly reflect the grades I will have in college but... I currently am attending 8th grade; school starts tomorrow for me! I am commisioner of my ASB squad, I currently hold a 4.0 average...I belong in the national Junior Honor society... Will mantaining this G.P.A. be difficult for me... Will school ever be too overwhelming for me? Will school ever, be sooo overwhelming to the point where I won't be able to catch up? And thus, will create my 4.0 average to drop down? I'm scared... I need answers...

So... breathe. :grins: Second, by the time you get to looking at PhD programs, Oxford may not be the top of your list. That's because, for PhD programs, the reputation of the program, of the department itself, trumps the reputation of the school as a whole. So you'll be picking the department with the best possible reputation in your field, rather than the university. Also know that, except in certain fields, the strongest PhD programs tend to... shh... be in the US. But that doesn't mean that you can't study at Oxford, either as part of your undergraduate studies or for a Master's degree.… [cont.]
